[Open Space] is a piano and violin duo committed to sharing the processes of musical collaboration from rehearsal through performance and everything in between. As a long-distance duo, they use the space between residencies and performances to develop musical ideas through words, images, sound-clips, and tangential conversations. This blog is a way to open that conversation to others.
Michiko Theurer plays violin, paints, and likes tea. Her favorite authors are Virginia Woolf and Milan Kundera. She has a DMA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MM from Indiana University, and is currently working on a PhD in musicology at Stanford. She really likes Rose's homemade yoghurt.
Rose Lachman is a pianist, pedagogue, and a good life coach. She has a DMA from the University of Colorado at Boulder, an MM from California State University at Northridge, and a BA from Scripps College. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in 2011 and collaborates frequently with composers and other chamber musicians. In addition to her musicianship and culinary skills, Rose is a former world-champion acrobatic gymnast.
